In a multi-pass design, for some models, the last plate in the plate package is a transition plate. It prevents the fluids from coming in contact with, for example, the painted carbon steel pressure plate. All portholes are sealed off and it directs the media out of the plate pack into the connections on the pressure plate leading it safely out of the heat exchanger.
